About baybites.co.uk

Bay Bites was originally intended as an idea to preserve a collection of recipes, donated by residents of Robin Hood's Bay and Hawsker villages as a means to raise funds for an extension to Hawsker-cum-Stainsacre Primary School, back in 1998. It seemed such a shame to let the recipes be forgotten, so I have recorded them here on this website for anyone to use and enjoy.
If you have not yet experienced this wonderful coastal area of North Yorkshire, visit the Gallery page to see the beauty of what you're missing. Robin Hoods Bay has so much to offer by way of dining out and accommodation and, as well as its interesting beaches and cliffs to explore, its close proximity to the historic port of Whitby makes it well worth a visit!

Robin Hood’s Bay

Robin Hoods Bay is a small village located 5 miles south of Whitby and 15 miles north of Scarborough on the coast of North Yorkshire, England. This place is one of the most charming and popular villages in the North York Moors National Park. The pretty coloured cottages with their red tile roofs are huddled into the cliff side on either side of you as you walk down the village main street leading down to a slipway at bottom of the village and then there's the expanse of the beach and the North Sea beyond.

At low tide the characteristic rocky scars are visible just off the beach. It’s a great place for fossil hunting and the rock pools left by the tide contain numerous examples of fascinating marine life for you to explore. There is a good selection of shops, bars and places to eat in amongst the guesthouses and holiday cottages, and the village is a great place to walk, famed by the Coast to Coast Walk (St. Bees, Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire). Whitby

Whitby is a popular town, thriving on fishing and tourism industries, situated on the coast of North Yorkshire. To the south lies the coastal villages and resorts of Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. All these are within a short driving distance of Whitby.

The town is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey. This traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and the sandy beach is a great place for a holiday or short break. Whitby is set among fine stretches of coastline with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays.

From the old town of Whitby, 199 steps lead up to the parish church of St. Mary, whose churchyard on the cliff gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write his world famous book, Dracula. This has, since around 1994, led to great interest by the 'Goth' trend. The Whitby Gothic Weekend is a twice-yearly festival (usually April and October) where Goths come from far and wide to gather in Whitby. Read more about Whitby (external link).

Hawsker

Hawsker Hawsker is a pretty village situated between Whitby (2 miles) and Robin Hoods Bay (3 miles) on the main Whitby to Scarborough road (the A171)

Hawsker has plenty to offer by way of accommodation, be it caravan sites, camp sites or bed and breakfast establishments. Also you will find the old station that lay on the main Whitby-Scarborough railway line, disused since 1965. This now houses Trailways which puts Hawsker 'on the map' as far as outdoor activity is concerned, as it is a centre for cycle hire for the area and offers its own self-catering accommodation.
